Washington DC Trip was Great! We're back from Washington DC! The trip was fantastic from the great bus driver, to the well orchestrated itinerary, to the nice hotel with super cool pool! Jens Duerr and Tricia Garanzini did a great job planning this trip for our pack. The boys had fantastic behavior and seemed to really enjoy themselves, with both family time and pack time. Well Done! As a pack, we visited The White House, the National Archives and the Air and Space Museum by Dulles Airport. On Saturday, The boys received special treatment when visiting the National Archives and were able to sneak to the front of the line to see the Declaration of Independence. The guard must have a real soft spot for boy scouts! We had a mixture of crazy weather that day, but much of the day was sunny and beautiful, another nice treat after a long winter. On Sunday the boys enjoyed a guided tour of the fabulous Air and Space Museum. They saw the actual Enola Gay, a Space Shuttle and many, many other aircraft and space pods. Some boys attended the IMAX theatre for a movie on The Forces of Nature while still others tested their flight skills in one of the many flight simulators. Look at all the other crazy pictures from the weekend! .
So long Webelos, and thanks for all the fun! Our Blue and Gold extravaganza was fantastic, thanks to a lot of work from our hosts, Webelos II den parents and all our Pack leaders. There were lots of cool awards that the scouts earned, fun entertainment by Kinetic Kyle the Mad Scientist and some really funny videos by the Webelos II Den (Did they say "Fire?")
The highlight of the day was the Arrow of Light Ceremony. All nine (nine!) of our Webelos II scouts earned Cub Scouting's highest award. In fact, it's the only Cub Scout award that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform. We hope our scouts will wear theirs proudly as they become Troop 200's newest patrol.
Thanks to all the parents and scouts who made the day such fun and so memorable. We bid a sad farewell to not only our bridging Webelos, but to some great scouting parents who will be leaving our Pack with their sons. Thanks to outgoing Cubmaster Mr. Grunden, Pack Committee Chair Mrs. La Tournous and Webelos Den Leader Mr. La Tournous. We hope to see you all around the campfire sometime!
Webelos 2 Den conquers Jugtown Mountain The Webelos 2 den went on a winter hike to Jugtown Mountain Nature Preserve. We had a great time enjoying the trail, the beautiful view of the valley below and some very cool ice crystals that formed in some old logs.
The boys ran their own hike and made all their own decisions, including which trail to take, how to follow it and orienteering their way back to the trailhead -- all flawlessly. Who says you can't have fun outdoors in the cold? We say "bring on the Klondike Derby!" Check out a couple pictures Mr. La Tournous snapped with his iPhone here.
Popcorn-peddling pie pitchers pelt Pack poobah No, that's not Santa Claus -- it's Mr. Grunden after being blasted with pies by our top popcorn sellers. Nine scouts earned the right to toss a cream pie right at Mr. Grunden's face at our December Pack Night. Want to see the whole thing? Click here for a photo gallery. We had lots going on at this month's Pack Night -- we'll tell you all about it soon.
Upcoming Training Opportunities All Pack 119 leaders are expected to be fully trained for the position(s) they hold. There are several upcoming training opportunities in Patriots Path Council. Please take a look and see if they're offering anything you need. Please contact Mr. La Tournous if you have any questions about required training.
Webelos 2 Den pitches in at clothing drive Our Webelos 2 Den helped out at the UTS PTA's clothing drive fundraiser, where they helped unload almost 100 cars and 12,000 pounds of clothes. The boys did a great job of showing that a big part of scouting is service to our community -- and that you can still have fun doing it. The boys even made it into the Hunterdon County Democrat. Great job, scouts!
Pack 119's 'Weekend at Bernie's' We played, climbed, hiked, oriented, ate, "bulls-eyed" and survived a great weekend at Camp Bernie. Our scouts and parents had a lot of fun and even braved snow flurries (although it got a lot nicer as they day went on.) There was a brand new, twice-as-big-as-last-year, 40 ft. climbing tower that even some of the dads got to try. We got to do archery, the low ropes course, orienteering, wilderness survival, candle dipping, dreamcatcher making and more. A big thanks to our scouts who served as waiters (and got to eat first as a reward!)
We also had a big campfire (with S'mores!) The camp staff led us in some cool songs and stories, and we taught them a couple, too! Then, Mr. Fodera told us the story of Mr. Bernie, the big fire and the ghosts who are said to still roam the grounds. (Pretty noisily, as it turns out.)
All in all, it was tons of fun for everyone who camped. We can't wait to do it again next year. Mr. La Tournous posted a few of his pictures to a gallery. If you've got some to share, please send them to him.
Webelos 2 visit the 'Battle for Middle Earth' Camporee! The Eagles -- our Webelos 2 den -- took a trip to the District Fall Camporee this weekend and had a great time. The weather was beautiful and there were a ton of "Lord of the Rings" themed activity stations. The den scored high points by starting a roaring fire in no time. The scouts also jousted, played blind dodgeball, shot arrows, fought bravely in hand-to-hand combat and more. They even watched scout-built trebuchets launch heads (yes, heads) through the air. Click here to see a photo gallery of the day!
New Tigers and a Halloween Party -- What a Night! The Webelos 1 Den played hosts for our October Pack Night -- a Halloween party filled with cool games, great costumes, creepy desserts and lots more. We also welcomed our new Tiger Den -- they're a great bunch of boys and they're already bringing a lot of fun and excitement to the Pack! Click here for the photos!
Visit Pack 119 at Back-to-School Night! Some of our leaders and scouts will be on hand at Union Township Elementary School's Back-to-School Night on September 25th. We'll have pictures of some of the cool things we've done, scouts on hand to talk about our Pack, and maybe even some of the cool things we've made. We'll also have registration forms for new scouts who want to join the fun. If you're attending BTS Night, please stop by and say "hi!"
NASA's Space Place
When Mr. La Tournous was a kid, he wanted to be an astronaut when he grew up (OK, he still wants to be an astronaut when he grows up.) If NASA's Space Place was around back then, he might have gotten his wish. Whether you're a Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos, Space Place can help you with achievements and electives, including belt loops and pins. Plus, it's got games, projects, cool animations and a lot more. Be sure to check it out!
Welcome to our Pack website!
Cub Scout Pack 119 serves the boys of Union Township and the surrounding area in northern Hunterdon County, New Jersey. As with the National Scouting Program, it’s our goal to provide a program that offers young people responsible fun and adventure; instills lifetime values and develops ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law; trains young people in citizenship, service, and leadership; and serves our community and its families with Scouting’s quality, values-based program.
Plus, we have a lot of fun!
Play online games at the Boys’ Life website
We found some games you can play right online at the Boys’ Life section of the BSA website. There are a lot of good ones, but so far, the Archery game is our favorite.
What’s yours?
